I have used the product launch formula to launch my first digital course which went on to make $134,171 in just 6 days. Since then I've used the same formula to launch a number of business including one in April 2020 which destroyed all previous sales records.

Putting My Money On The Table
Before we get into the meat of my product launch formula review, let’s talk about the money because I know that’s all anyone is really interested in.
In total, the product launch generated $134,171 in sales in just 6 days which was broken down like this-
- Day 1: $30,027
- Day 2: $15,264
- Day 3: $9,810
- Day 4: $22,701
- Day 5: $45,025
- Day 6: $11,344
It would have taken me a year to earn that in my previous corporate job, but I made that in just 1 day with my online business, using the product launch formula I’m about to introduce you to.
To be clear, the product launch formula is a step by step method that shows you how to launch a product (or a service) the right way. It indicates in detail what you have to do – when you have to do – to go through each step of the process.
I’ll be sharing my journey with you as part of my product launch formula review.
Now I know you might be wondering why the sales spiked so hard on day 5 and that is because I took the product off the market to create scarcity.
The trickle of sales you see on day 6 is just the difference in global timezones. So technically it made over $56,000 on the final day.
Only making the product available to buy for 5 days might seem crazy, but that is part of the bigger secret formula that I am going to share with you later.
September 2019 Earnings Update
Since writing this post, I have updated and re-launched the course a couple of times. Each time I have launched the course I was able to clear 6 figures in profit!
One of the most succesful one was the JV launch which involved getting other people to promote the product for a commission-
As you can see that brought in an additional $128,894 with next to zero work on my behalf as other people sent traffic to the product.
I’ll teach you more about how I was able to take the sales total to $263,065 using the formula I’m about to share with you – so you can become successful online too.
But What About The Product Itself?
Before I introduce you to the product launches formula I used to achieve those results, I want to tell you a little about the product I launched.

The Tech Behind The Product
I know some of you will be wondering how I put the actual product together, so this is what I used-
- LearnDash – This is the Wordpress plugin I used to make the course itself and structure it. LearnDash has a bunch of awesome features & integrates with a range of payment products processors and membership platforms.
- SamCart – I used SamCart for the checkout as it integrated with lots of payment processors so I could switch them out in 1 click if I had a problem but it also made setting up payments plans and split testing the checkout design easy. I may do a more detailed tutorial about the technical setup in the future, including how I automatically send out physical items like this postcard-
But for now, let’s focus on the process itself because that makes the difference between making no money and making a ton of money!

The Perfect Product Launch Formula
I’m going to be honest with you – Creating the product was easy, but when it came down to actually launching the product…
I was like a deer caught in the headlights.
You see, I didn’t really know how to launch a product and I certainly didn’t know where to start!
As an experienced marketer, I understood that trying to sell anything online these days is difficult because everyone is walking around with a super-sensitive “BS Detector”.
But I was determined to break 6 figures with my first product launch and have the most profitable week of my life.
After making $134,171 in just 6 days, I’m pretty confident that I nailed it and that success was purely down to discovering the sideways sales letter.
Introducing The Sideways Sales Letter
After countless days of research, I decided to implement The Sideways Sales Letter technique which was created by Jeff Walker.
Why…? Well, because he knows what he’s talking about. His book “LAUNCH” was #1 New York Times Bestseller when it came out!
I highly recommend to online business owner to watch his free training videos that explain it all step by step. It is definitely the key to become successful online.
I remember when I first watched that video, it completely blew my mind and opened my eyes to the new world of selling & how to layer mental triggers to drive sales crazy.
And for those of you that are wondering who Jeff Walker is…
He is the king of product launches and a sucessful New York Times bestselling author.
Jeff Walker’s product launch formula has been used to generate over $500 million dollars in niches like juggling, tennis coaching & internet marketing by online business owners.
In fact, you have probably been the victim of his sales strategies over the past decade without even knowing it.
Essentially he took the traditional long-form sales letter and turned it on its side.
Instead of having a single 10-page sales story letter, he splits it up into a series of contacts over a number of days with individual pieces of pre launch content which ends in a sales pitch.
Sounds complicated right?
Well, don’t worry because it’s super simple and Jeff Walker does a much better job of explaining it in these free training videos that include plenty of case studies.
In essence, it’s just 3 pieces of compelling, valuable pieces of content that are followed by a sales message. The content can be in the form of a PDF, a blog post or a video series, which is the best option.
The idea is that you – online business owner – deliver so much value across the 3 pieces of pre launch content that people are ready to hand over their money by the time you make the actual sales pitch.

And trust me when I tell you that he knows what he is talking about, his last launch made over a million dollars in a single hour!
Behind The Scenes Of My Prelaunch Content
So now you’ve watched the videos & understand the entire sideways sales letter concept & how to take advantage of the mental triggers that make us buy things.
Now I am going to take you behind the scenes of my own pre launch content to give you a tangible real-world example.
In the videos Jeff Walker explained the different types of content we can use (PDFs, podcasts, blog posts or videos). I chose to use 4 videos to deliver the content and sales message.
As you can see, I used an iPad as a teleprompter, a GoPro and a lavalier microphone to record the videos. These videos are also the only time you’ll ever see me in a shirt.
What really counts though, is how the videos were structured as part of the sideways sales letter.
Each video introduces a problem, a solution and then another problem through storytelling, education & TV like cliff hangers. All of which eventually leads into the final video.
This is how I structured mine-
Prelaunch Content Video #1
The first piece of prelaunch content is critical because it has to grab people’s attention and answer “why”S.
Why should people listen to you, why should they pay attention to you, why should they care?
To do that you need to focus on the opportunity for transformation or change.
Essentially you are communicating how someone’s life (including his online business) will change for the better if they listen to you & what you have to say.
This is how I structured it-
- Title: “How To Increase Traffic & Rankings With The Most Powerful Backlink On The Planet”
- Mental Triggers: Authority, Reciprocity, Credibility, Proof, Anticipation
- Launch Story Theme: Reluctant hero
- The Problem: Viewers have no traffic, no search engine rankings & confused by SEO
- The Solution: Introduce private blog networks
- Introduce The Next Problem: How do you build a private blog network?
Prelaunch Content Video #2
The first piece of prelaunch content focused on the “why”.
The second piece of content is all about the “what”.
What is the transformation or opportunity that will change the viewer’s life?
This video has a heavy focus on teaching and I really went overboard with what I taught in this video.
This is how I structured it-
- Title: “How To Create As Many Authoritative Links As You Want To Seriously Increase Your Websites Traffic”
- Mental Triggers: Community, Relatable, Proof, Controversy, Emotion
- Launch Story Theme: Loss & Redemption combined with The Underdog
- The Problem: How do you build a private blog network?
- The Solution: Show people a top down view of the process over my shoulder
- Introduce The Next Problem: Getting caught by Google & how to avoid detection
That creates an “open loop” which keeps people in suspense for the next video, much like your favorite TV shows always leaves you on a cliff hanger.
Prelaunch Content Video #3
The last 2 videos answered the “why” and the “what”.
The third video shifts focus to the “how”.
It is also designed to shift into the product ownership experience and really dial down exactly how it will change the viewers life.
At this point, I’ve already introduced people to private blog networks with a top-down view of how to build them.
This video shows them how to avoid getting caught, but it doesn’t show them how to put all of the pieces of puzzle together.
This is how it was structured-
- Title: “My Secret Strategies To Fly Under The Radar & Remain Undetected For Complete Ranking Domination”
- Mental Triggers: Social proof, Proof, Simplicity
- Launch Story Theme: Discovery
- The Problem: Getting caught by Google & how to avoid detection
- The Solution: Understanding footprints
- Introduce The Next Problem: How to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together
The Sales Video
The last 3 videos were designed to take people on an educational journey by delivering huge amounts of value through story telling while simultaneously touching on key mental triggers.
You might not realise it by reading through these notes, but I can’t stress enough just how much value I delivered in the first 3 videos.
I ensured that I delivered actual tangible content with real substance that would change peoples lives if implemented.
That is where the true power of the sideways sales letter comes into play and with this power, we can now safely pivot into the sales pitch.
At this point people have a thorough understanding of private blog networks, how to build them and how to avoid the common pitfalls – but they don’t understand the wider strategy which is where the pivot into the sale comes in.

Once you have had a successful launch the next phase of the process that Jeff Walker – a New York Times bestselling author – teaches is a JV launch.
In essence you set up an affiliate program and split profits with affiliates 50/50.
That way I will have an army of people all promoting the course to their list in the same moment which will create a huge amount of buzz and word of mouth.
It also allows me to reach new audiences outside of my own subscribers.
How To Prepare For A Joint Venture Launch
Preparing is easy, all you need-
- Is a method to track affiliate sales
- And a page that explains the JV launch
And you can set all of that up in a day!
Choosing An Affiliate Platform
You have a huge range of options to consider when choosing an affiliate platform. But for 99% of people you are going to want to use JVZoo.

Once you have contacted everyone in “your world” you need to reach out to other places to recruit potential affiliates.
Product Launch Calendars
First of all you should submit your launch to the various launch calendars-
For example I bought the following featured listing upgrades-
- MunchEye – $250 for a 7 day featured upgrade
- JVNewsWatch – $47 featured listing upgrade
- JVPlanet – $37 permanent featured listing upgrade
- JVPromote – $19 permanent featured listing upgrade
This isn’t cheap but it’s really worth it!

One of the main benefits of using JVZoo as your affiliate platform is the fact they already have hundreds of thousands of affiliates across every niche you can think of.
But JVZoo also offer a number of advertising options that will see your affiliate sign up shoot through the roof,
For example this advert gets shown front and center to every single affiliate and seller that logs into JVZoo-

Well it depends because some people are entirely new and others are coming with some experience already, but it would take someone entirely new around 12-16 hours to complete it but then again, it depends if the pass the tests, have to retake them etc etc etc

I’ve read your blog for a while and I’m impressed with some of your posts, you’ve done well to build a blog that makes you a nice income.
However I find it ridiculous that anyone, let alone a little known blogger could create a pbn course with a fake/worthless/bullshit certificate. The only people that have bought this crap must be newbies or people who have no idea about seo.
PBN’s are nothing new, nor are they something to brag about to potential clients. A quick search on private blog networks from a client who is impressed by this “certificate” will quickly realise “oh you have a certificate in a strategy that is completely against Google’s guidlines and can potentially ruin my business?”
Now I’m not saying pbns don’t work, I use them myself and they work great. But no matter how good your pbns look, they are, and always will be a strategy that comes with a risk. How you can sell a course with a “certificate” in pbns that means absolutely nothing is crazy.
Can you tell us about this “marketers seal” certificate? What use is it to anyone? And can you disclose at least one person who has bought your pbn course that found any use whatsoever with this certificate?
I think you should have stuck to the course without the need to add that.

I accept your point, however can you please provide a list of link building methods that are “safe” and approved by Google?
The certification was an added extra so that people can demonstrate they have a certain skill and they have actually demonstrated that skill in order to gain the certification. Rather than just all of the people that say they know how to build a PBN, now people can actually prove it beyond any doubt.
They also get sent out some physical items in the snail mail which is a nice value add in comparison to the normal courses they would buy that yes you right, is not needed – but it’s a touch I like to add at my own expense.
Plus I’ve not seen anyone speak about or teach building PBN’s in the way I do, they are light years ahead of anything else I’ve seen.

I hope you don’t mind me leaving a reply re: your comment. I can’t speak to the course subject or its content, so I’ll leave that to Matt. But, I can speak to the certificate piece.
I have seen “no name” businesses offer certificates with tremendous success. To the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars (similar to what Matt has demonstrated).
By way of example, Digital Marketer offers certifications with their training for a variety of subjects (some of which include SEO). Does it mean anything in terms of an accredited agency? No. Do people enroll and print the certificates? Yes.
Online courses do well to provide a “carrot” – something to work towards. There are a good number of people that like to print something off at the end of the course. Whether that’s something you like to do or not is a personal preference. Point is, many people do like it and are motivated by it.
If at some point you create a course, and if you do I’d recommend creating a certificate for it. You may feel silly at first but you’d be surprised. I recall talking to Troy Dean from WPElevation about the exact same thing actually. He couldn’t believe how people were so into the certificates for his “little online course”. Today it’s different, his course is super popular. Still, the certificate itself doesn’t carry any “weight” in the traditional sense.
Anyhow, just thought I’d lend a little insight. Again, I don’t know much about the course content so I can’t really comment on that. But when it comes to certificates for an online course… do it.

I should also highlight, that to earn the certification people have to go through 6 module specific exams first and it’s not possible to progress to the next module without completing the end of module exam first.
This means that people can’t just skim through the course which is important in a world of so many distractions, you have to be focused and actually learn the material in order to progress.
And that is before they get to the final exam which tests everything they have learned, teaches them to solve problem with their new knowledge and I throw in a bunch of red herrings to teach people how to avoid mistakes which are easy to make but could be critical to the survival of your network.
The exams would be pretty useless if you didn’t get a certification at the end of it as there would be no goal.
I’ve also sacked more people with actual expensive 3 year long digital marketing degrees and university education than I can count on my fingers, the best guys are always the ones with zero qualifications that learned in the trenches.

The guys at digital marketer are similar. Although I’d say Ryan Deiss has much more experience in the internet marketing space. Again though I’m of the opinion that the courses/certificates from those guys are also pointless.
I know university/college degress mean nothing compared to guys in the trenches doing seo/digital marketing all day however I think they look much better to potential clients than a certificate from another im guru.
It’s one thing to say on paper you have the knowledge to do something, it’s another to actually be doing it.
My initial concern is that PBN’s are not what I’d consider and marketing strategy that you should be boasting about let alone owning an exam certificate.
I know (even though I use pbns) that some of my potential clients were to ask about a certificate on pbns, they would look it up and run a mile as soon as they read about what they are and how they can potentially harm a business.

Creating great content and genuine outreach to real sites, with real social followers, real traffic etc is safer than pbns. Getting newsworthy content in front of millions (which generates links) is safer. Both strategies I’ve used for my current clients and past employer. The results were so good it makes me wonder why pbns are still used. The time it takes me to find a good domain, build the site,fill with content etc I could have put in place a strategy to acquire 20-30 links of the same/similar quality.

So that remarkable amount of money you made in such a short time is really the result of years of work to create the product, and probably marketed to thousands of existing contacts.
No one else can achieve this, suggesting they can is extremely disingenuous, really this is nothing more than click-bait.
I used to really like this blog, you provided some great resources over the years, but now you seem to be doing nothing more than trying to rip-off people by giving them entirely unreasonable expectations.
You can create a product in a few days if you wish and Jeff teaches a very specific strategy for people with zero list and no product that would like to get paid before they have made the product. That is called the ‘seed launch’ which is taught in his free training videos.
You are wrong when you say that no one else can achieve this, that is a very limiting mindset to hold. Anyone can achieve this, but it takes work and I can only share my own personal results of the method along with how I implemented it – the hard work is down to you.
But if you are in a position of no list and no product (which is not my responsibility) then you should learn about the seed launch in his free videos, which will in turn set you up for a much bigger product launch.
Not all of my audience is in that position though – some have established sites, others don’t even have a site yet – all I can do is share what has worked for me along with the real results of that.

Just checked your income report for September last year (which I’m guessing is roughly when you launched the product?) and it shows 66k+ email subscribers.
Was the launch to 4K people the “seed launch”? If not, how exactly did you segment those subscribers and decide upon the 4,000 subs to launch the product to?

The product was launched in November, and only to a specific segment of the list based on interests, activity and responsiveness. The reason for that is if I made a mess of things, I didn’t want to have blown it all on the first shot.
Since that initial launch, I have updated the course twice and I’m working on the 3rd update ready to re-launch it all guns blazing in Feb or March which is when I expect the big numbers will come in.
I did not use the seed launch strategy because I already had a product and a list. The seed launch is strictly for people with no product and no list that want to make money before they have even made the product.
Jeff talks about both approaches in the videos though.
